Carbendazim 50% WP is a broad-spectrum, systemic fungicide widely used in agriculture to both prevent and cure fungal diseases. The "50% WP" indicates that it is a Wettable Powder containing 50% of the active ingredient, Carbendazim.
As a systemic fungicide, it is absorbed by the plant (through leaves or roots) and moves internally through the sap (xylem).
Preventive: It stops fungal spores from germinating and forming "germ tubes."
Curative: It disrupts the cell division (mitosis) of existing fungi, effectively killing the pathogen already inside the plant.
It is used across a variety of crops, including paddy (rice), wheat, vegetables, and fruits.
| Application Method | Typical Dosage | Common Targets |
| Foliar Spray | 12 g per liter of water (or 100200 g per acre) | Blast, Sheath Blight, Powdery Mildew, Leaf Spot |
| Seed Treatment | 2 g per kg of seed | Loose Smut, Damping Off, Seedling Blight |
| Soil Drench | 2 g per liter of water | Root Rot, Collar Rot, Wilt |
Paddy: Blast and Sheath Blight.
Wheat/Barley: Loose Smut.
Vegetables (Brinjal, Chilli): Fruit Rot, Damping Off, and Leaf Spot.
Fruits (Apple, Grapes): Scab and Anthracnose.
Broad Spectrum: Effective against a vast range of fungal pathogens (Ascomycetes, Deuteromycetes, and Basidiomycetes).
Dual Action: Works as both a protective shield and a curative treatment.
Cost-Effective: Generally more affordable per acre compared to newer generation fungicides.
Rain-Fast: Once absorbed by the plant, it remains effective even if it rains a few hours after application.
Important: Carbendazim is classified as a hazardous substance and is banned or restricted in several countries (including many in the EU) due to potential health risks.
Human Health: It is a suspected mutagen and may cause reproductive/developmental harm. Pregnant women should strictly avoid contact.
Protective Gear: Always wear gloves, a mask, and long-sleeved clothing during mixing and application.
Environment: Highly toxic to aquatic life and earthworms. Never spray near water bodies or during high winds to avoid drift.
Waiting Period: Observe a "Pre-Harvest Interval" (PHI) of at least 1421 days before harvesting crops after the last spray.
