Novaluron 10% EC

Novaluron 10% EC is a broad-spectrum insecticide and Insect Growth Regulator (IGR). It is primarily used to control larval stages of pests, particularly caterpillars (Lepidoptera), by disrupting their natural development process.

1. Mode of Action

Novaluron belongs to the Benzoylphenyl urea class. Unlike traditional "knockdown" poisons that attack the nervous system, it works as a Chitin Synthesis Inhibitor:

• Molting Interruption: It prevents the insect larvae from producing chitin, a key component of their exoskeleton. When the larvae try to molt (grow into the next stage), they cannot form a new shell and eventually die.

• Ingestion & Contact: It acts mainly through ingestion (stomach poison) but also has some contact activity.

• Ovicidal Action: It can also prevent eggs from hatching if the female moth comes into contact with the chemical.
