Pyriproxyfen 10% EC

Pyriproxyfen 10% EC is a highly effective, selective Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) used primarily to manage sucking pests in agriculture and public health. Unlike traditional neurotoxic insecticides, it doesn't kill adult insects immediately; instead, it disrupts their life cycle to crash the population over time.

How It Works (Mode of Action)

Pyriproxyfen mimics a natural "Juvenile Hormone" in insects. It works through three main actions:

1. Ovicidal Action: It prevents insect eggs from hatching.

2. Developmental Block: It stops nymphs and larvae from molting into adults, causing them to die in the immature stage.

3. Sterilization: Adult females exposed to the chemical lay sterile eggs, effectively stopping the next generation.

Target Pests & Crops

It is particularly effective against pests that have developed resistance to other chemicals, especially Whiteflies.

Application Guidelines

• Timing: Apply at the first sign of infestation (early nymph stage). It is most effective when the pest population is low.

• Coverage: Use a fine spray and ensure thorough coverage of the underside of leaves, where pests like whiteflies typically hide (translaminar action helps it reach these spots).

• Knockdown Tip: Because it doesn't kill adults instantly, it is often mixed with "knockdown" insecticides (like Bifenthrin or Fenpropathrin) to provide both immediate relief and long-term control.

• Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI):

  • Vegetables: Usually 7 days.

  • Cotton: Between 30 50 days.

Safety & Precautions

• Aquatic Life: Extremely toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not allow runoff into ponds or streams.

• Beneficials: Generally safe for adult honeybees and predatory insects, making it a great choice for Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

• Personal Protection: Always wear gloves, a mask, and goggles. Avoid inhaling the spray mist.

• Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from food, children, and direct sunlight.
