Clothianidin 50% WG (Water Dispersible Granules) is a highly effective, broad-spectrum, systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid chemical family. It is widely used in agriculture to control a variety of sucking and soil-dwelling pests.
Clothianidin acts on the central nervous system of insects. It functions as an agonist of acetylcholine, binding to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR). This disrupts nerve transmissions, leading to hyperexcitation, paralysis, and eventual death of the pest.
Dual Action: It works through both contact (dermal) and stomach (oral) action.
Systemic & Translaminar Movement: Once applied, it is rapidly absorbed by the roots or leaves and spreads throughout the entire plant, providing comprehensive and long-lasting protection.
It is highly effective against a broad range of chewing and sucking pests across several critical crops:
| Crop | Target Pests |
| Paddy (Rice) | Brown Plant Hopper (BPH) |
| Cotton | Jassids, Aphids, Thrips, Whiteflies |
| Sugarcane | Termites, Shoot Borers |
| Grapes | Mealybugs, Jassids, Thrips |
| Tea | Tea Mosquito Bug |
Depending on the crop and pest severity, Clothianidin 50% WG can be applied using two primary methods:
Foliar Spray Application:
Dosage: 12 to 16 grams per acre (mixed with 150200 liters of water).
Best for: Sucking pests like BPH in rice, or aphids/whiteflies in cotton.
Soil Drenching / Soil Application:
Dosage: 100 to 200 grams per acre (mixed with 400 liters of water).
Best for: Root-feeding or ground pests like termites in sugarcane or mealybugs in grapevines, usually applied during early growth or sowing stages.
Low Dosage, High Efficacy: Provides robust control over tough pests at very low application rates.
Long-Lasting Protection: Its strong systemic nature ensures fewer applications are needed over the crop cycle.
Anti-Feeding Effect: Insects stop feeding or sucking plant sap almost immediately after exposure, minimizing immediate crop damage.
Bee Toxicity: Like most neonicotinoids, Clothianidin is highly toxic to bees and other pollinators. Avoid spraying during active flowering periods or when bees are actively foraging.
Protective Gear: Always wear gloves, masks, and protective clothing during mixing and spraying.
Storage: Store in its original container in a cool, dry place, strictly out of reach of children and livestock.
