Emamectin Benzoate 1.9% EC is a modern, semi-synthetic insecticide and acaricide derived from the natural fermentation of Streptomyces bacteria. It is widely used in agriculture to control a variety of chewing pests, particularly those from the Lepidoptera family (caterpillars and moths).
Mode of Action: It is a neurotoxin that disrupts nerve signals (specifically by intensifying glutamate and GABA effects). This causes the pest to stop feeding within hours and leads to irreversible paralysis and death within 24 days.
Activity: It works through stomach action (ingestion) and contact. It also has translaminar activity, meaning it penetrates the leaf surface to form a reservoir inside the leaf, providing long-lasting protection against leaf-miners and hidden larvae.
Spectrum: Highly effective against bollworms, fruit borers, leaf folders, thrips, and mites.
The dosage can vary slightly depending on the brand and specific crop, but general guidelines are:
| Crop | Target Pest | Dosage (per Acre) | Water Volume |
| Cotton | Bollworms, Mites | 200 250 ml | 200 L |
| Paddy (Rice) | Leaf Folder, Stem Borer | 170 200 ml | 200 L |
| Chilli / Tomato | Fruit Borer, Thrips | 150 180 ml | 200 L |
| Soybean | Girdle Beetle, Tobacco Caterpillar | 170 200 ml | 200 L |
| Vegetables | Caterpillars, Diamondback Moth | 150 200 ml | 200 L |
Pro Tip: For small-scale application, a common mixing ratio is 1.3 ml to 1.5 ml per liter of water (roughly 2530 ml per 15-liter sprayer pump).
Waiting Period: The time between the last spray and harvest (Pre-Harvest Interval) typically ranges from 3 days (Chilli/Tomato) to 15 days (Cotton). Always check the specific label.
Toxicity: It is classified as moderately toxic (Yellow Label in some regions). It is highly toxic to bees and aquatic life. Avoid spraying when bees are active or near water bodies.
Protection: Always wear gloves, a mask, and protective clothing during application. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the chemical.
Rainfastness: It is generally rainfast within 2 hours of application.
1.9% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate): A liquid form, often preferred for its ease of mixing and quick absorption into leaf tissues.
5% SG (Soluble Granules): A more concentrated granular form. While the active ingredient is the same, the 5% SG version requires a much lower volume of product per acre but higher precision in measuring.
