Thiamethoxam 25% WG is a broad-spectrum, systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid group.1 It is widely used in agriculture and horticulture to control a variety of sucking and chewing pests.
The "WG" stands for Water-Dispersible Granules, which are dust-free, easy to handle, and dissolve quickly in water for spraying.
Systemic Action: Once applied, the chemical is rapidly absorbed by the plants roots or leaves and moves through the plant's vascular system (xylem). This ensures that even new growth is protected.
Targeting the Nervous System: It disrupts the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in an insect's nervous system. This causes continuous nerve excitation, leading to paralysis and death within a few hours.
Dual Exposure: Insects are controlled both by direct contact with the spray and by ingesting treated plant tissues.
Thiamethoxam is particularly effective against "sucking" pests that drain plant sap.
| Crop | Target Pests | Dosage (per Acre) |
| Rice (Paddy) | Stem borer, Green leaf hopper, Thrips, Brown plant hopper | 40100 g |
| Cotton | Jassids, Aphids, Thrips, Whiteflies | 4080 g |
| Vegetables (Tomato, Okra, Brinjal) | Whiteflies, Aphids, Jassids | 4080 g |
| Mango | Hoppers | 40 g (per 15L water) |
| Wheat / Mustard | Aphids | 2040 g |
Long-Lasting Protection: Due to its systemic nature, it provides residual control for several days, reducing the frequency of sprays.
Translaminar Movement: It can move from the upper surface of a leaf to the lower surface, reaching hidden pests.
Improved Crop Vigour: By reducing the stress caused by pest attacks, it often helps plants maintain better growth and yield quality.
Rainfastness: Once absorbed into the plant tissue (usually within a few hours), it is not easily washed away by rain.
Toxicity: It is generally classified as toxic if swallowed and very toxic to aquatic life.
Protect Pollinators: It is highly toxic to bees. Do not spray during the active foraging period or when crops are in full bloom.
PPE: Always wear protective clothing, including gloves, masks, and goggles, when handling the granules or spraying.
Waiting Period: Observe the Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI) specified on the label (e.g., 21 days for cotton, 5 days for tomatoes).
