Fenpyroximate 5% SC is a highly effective, broad-spectrum acaricide (miticide) and insecticide widely used in agriculture to control various species of plant-damaging mites.
The "SC" stands for Suspension Concentrate, a water-based formulation that makes it easy to mix, offers great foliage coverage, and is generally safer for the crop compared to EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate) formulations.
Here is a comprehensive breakdown of how it works, what it controls, and how to use it safely.
Fenpyroximate belongs to the METI (Mitochondrial Electron Transport Inhibition) class of chemicals (IRAC Group 21A).
Energy Disruption: It works by inhibiting Complex I in the mitochondrial respiratory chain of the pest. This blocks ATP (energy) production, causing the mite to rapidly stop feeding and paralyze.
All-Stage Control: It targets multiple life stages of mitesincluding larvae, nymphs, and adults. It also inhibits molting in nymphs and reduces egg-laying (oviposition) in females, breaking the pest's reproductive cycle.
Knockdown and Residual: It provides a quick contact "knockdown" effect alongside long-lasting residual control (typically 3 to 4 weeks).
It is highly effective against phytophagous (plant-eating) mites, including:
Red Spider Mites (Tetranychidae)
Yellow Mites
Pink & Purple Mites
Eriophyid Mites (Rust/Blister mites)
Broad Mites (Tarsonemidae)
Secondary control: It also shows efficacy against certain sucking pests like whiteflies, leafhoppers, and psyllids.
Fenpyroximate 5% SC is extensively used in cash crops, horticulture, and plantations.
| Crop | Target Pest | Recommended Dosage (Per Acre) | Water Volume (Per Acre) |
| Chilli | Yellow Mites | 120 250 ml | 150 200 Liters |
| Tea | Red Spider Mite, Pink & Purple Mites | 120 240 ml | 150 200 Liters |
| Coconut | Eriophyid Mite | 10 ml per tree (often applied via root feeding or localized nut spraying) | Varied based on method |
| Fruits & Veggies (Apples, Tomato, Grapes) | Two-Spotted Spider Mites, Rust Mites | Dilution of 1 to 1.5 ml per Liter of water | Thorough canopy coverage |
Thorough Coverage is Key: Fenpyroximate relies heavily on contact and stomach action. Mites usually live on the undersides of leaves, so ensure your spray thoroughly covers both the upper and lower leaf surfaces.
Use an Adjuvant: Mixing a silicone-based spreader/sticker can significantly improve leaf penetration and chemical longevity.
Resistance Management: To prevent mites from developing resistance, avoid using Fenpyroximate or other METI inhibitors sequentially. Alternate it with miticides from different chemical classes (e.g., Abamectin, Spiromesifen, or Hexythiazox).
Aquatic Toxicity: Fenpyroximate is highly toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not spray near water bodies or allow chemical drift to reach ponds or streams.
Beneficial Insects: It is relatively safe for beneficial predatory mites and honeybees when used at recommended doses, making it suitable for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
PPE: Always wear protective gear (gloves, mask, and goggles) during mixing and application. Do not spray during the peak heat of the day.
Are you looking to use this for a specific crop, or are you trying to troubleshoot a particular mite problem right now?
